My specialisms and interests
Please note: I will work on most texts but I do not work on technical manuals, physics papers or those containing mathematical language. (If you are looking for a proofreader who specialises in one of these fields, I can advise you if you contact me.)
I learned to read from newspapers at the age of three. Plainly, I was so drawn to words that I couldn’t wait until starting school and reading Noddy books.
Proofreading evoked my curiosity when, as a teenager, I worked on a regional newspaper. But seventeen seemed too young to think about a career, so I saved my earnings and travelled.
After my share of thoroughly uninspiring jobs (mixing cement on a building site, for one), I was employed by a graphic design company. Subsequently, I found uniquely interesting work at a London art studio, making props for television, film, theatre and theme parks.
While working within the health food industry, I started studying with the Open University, just for pleasure. A few moves later, still with a zest for words and, by now, having spent several contented years as a bookseller, I decided to continue my education with a view to working with words. And so, Bespoke Proofreading & Editing Services came about.
